May 2022 intake

Why did you choose to study with the University of Leeds?

I chose the University of Leeds as it has a very good reputation and is ranked in the world Top 100. The feedback from past students has been great and I’ve seen case studies of students going on to achieve great things in their careers.

Why did you choose to study this course online rather than in-person?

I chose to study this course online to balance my academic studies with my professional life. I wanted to grow my own academic skills whilst developing professionally in my current role as a Product Manager in Data & Analytics at GSK.

What have been the highlights of your course? Have you learned anything that has inspired you?

Each module tackles a different theme and makes us consider a variety of topics from a sustainability perspective, from business solutions to contemporary economics and governance policies.

I’ve found the study materials mindboggling, especially the TED Talks as their statements are backed up by relevant facts and numbers relating to, for example, racial justice, climate justice, and indigenous knowledge. We also discussed models such as Doughnut Economic concepts by Kate Raworth which was really worth doing.

One major sustainability change that it brought in my personal life was switching from using two mobile phones to one. I gave the other to my sister who needed it, to both reduce my consumption and save the spare one from going into landfill by reusing it.

How have you found the experience of online study? What is the best thing about it?

The online study experience has been great. I’ve really enjoyed the live interactions where I’ve been able to hear very diverse perspectives from facilitators and fellow students. The discussions that we have via the online discussion board have also been interesting and we get very prompt replies from the academics.

How have you found the support from your tutors at Leeds?

Our tutors are supportive and encourage us to ask questions, and everybody is given a fair chance to do so. It’s also very useful during the weeks that we submit our assessments.

What has it been like networking and interacting with other students on your course?

All students have discussions during our weekly classes which are useful. At the beginning, we had separate calls to get to know each other and that’s continued throughout the course where we occasionally bounce ideas on a specific topic. We also have a separate WhatsApp group which is very active too.

What are your career aspirations? How do you think your degree will support them?

I am part of the leadership team at GSK and would like to see myself develop sustainable solutions for the company as well as humanity.

The way this course is designed helps me comprehend the importance of sustainability for global organisations and consider how strategic sustainable strategies and solutions can assist.

Finally, if you could give one piece of advice to someone considering studying an online Masters with the University of Leeds, what would it be?

If you are ready to devote time to your studies, eager to learn more about the subject and invest in your personal and professional life, then the course with Leeds is one of the best choices. They deliver what they promise and the knowledge of the academics who are solving real-world problems is reflected in the depth and quality of the course.
