The School of Computing is ranked in the top 15 for Computer Science in the UK (Times Higher Education University Rankings by Subject, 2022).

Our specialist Centre for Doctoral Training in Artificial Intelligence for Medical Diagnosis and Care focuses on the innovative technologies in the field of Artificial Intelligence, giving us strong research capability in this fast-paced discipline.

At the School of Computing, part of the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, 99% of the submitted computing research activity is rated as either “world-leading” or “internationally excellent”, with 63% rated as “world-leading” (Research Excellence Framework, 2021).

School of Design

Leeds School of Design is ranked 8th in the UK for Art and Design (Complete University Guide, 2023).

We’re an interdisciplinary School bringing together expertise from a range of design and technology specialisms. Creation and innovation are at the heart of both our teaching and research as we aim to develop new design ideas and provide solutions to issues faced in industry and society.

The school’s research submission achieved 100% ‘world leading’ status for the research environment (Research Excellence Framework, 2021). Our academic staff are also involved with several collaborative research centres including: Clothworkers’ Centre for Textile Materials Innovation for Healthcare, LAND2, and water@leeds with the goal of bringing the highest tangible impact to society in four themes of culture, economy, environment, and health.

The School of Earth and Environment is ranked in the global top 25 for Earth and Marine Sciences and in the top 40 for Environmental Studies (QS World University Rankings, 2022).

Our School is a major international powerhouse for environmental research that has wide-ranging and positive impacts on the world that we live in. 96% of our submitted research was rated ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’ in the latest REF (Research Excellence Framework, 2021).
